If your not loaded or under a load you don't need to log.

Come on, if you need one hour to get home, call a cab!! Why would you risk to get a ticket???

Haha try to explain that in court. If you are behind the wheel on a for hire commercial truck, you need to log

unfortunately, this is one thing that drivers have to face while being out on the road, believe me I have had my emergencies at home and being 2k miles away. but......

    according to the regs........

You are allowed to drive up to 2 hours in an emergency or for an unseen event as long as you don't go over your 14 hours, and only if you could have made it to your destination in that timeframe. If you couldn't make your destination in that time frame then one must find the nearest safe haven and shut it down.

Now, if I were you and if I was an hour from home, I would say heck with the logs, heck with the load and my butt is going home. (I can deal with logs, and company later,) If company has a big fit about it and say well we going to write you up, etc...etc.... then I would tell them to go ahead write me up and when they are done take the write up, the truck, the trailer, and shove it right up your wazoo...

So, technically, even though its a family emergency and you are against your 14 the answer is no. but family has to come first, and at that I would run home....but if you do just run home, call your company and let them know what is going on. Last thing you need is for the company to be sending you messages to stop the truck and you ignoring them, then to see those disco lights in your mirror because the company figured truck was stolen, or told the cops you were running illegal and won't stop the truck.

Family should always be first no matter what.....they don't like it tell them to come get their crap...

As absolute statements, both are wrong.

When it comes to my family NOTHING stops me. A ticket really so rather than be at a loved ones side for a major event you couldn't make it cause you might get a ticket.

lol....ok, if he gets pulled over, officer see's he/she is out of hours and driving over his/her hours, that officer is going to take him to nearest safe haven and put him out of service. (now how much faster is he going to get there?) and now he will have major fines too boot on top of everything....

While you are correct about the not needing to log empty I'm having trouble coming up with a way to not need a log in a CMV. Unless you are thinking the 12 hr rule, but I see that as a simple log, but still logging your time. Is there an example you know of otherwise to not need a log in a CMV?
