Today's passing of the spending bill affects truckers HOS rules. Do I understand correctly that the current 34 hour reset rule that requires two periods of 1:00-5:00 a.m. is now back to the original rule? And does this also mean that restrictions on the frequency of resets also reverts back to the old rules?
Can someone help me understand this? I'm surprised no one here is even discussing this.

OK, this answers at least the second part of my question.
Under federal law, truck drivers can be behind the wheel 11 hours a day, up to a maximum of 60 hours in a seven-day period. But if a trucker takes a 34-hour rest period, that seven-day calendar starts all over and the driver can be behind the wheel another 60 hour during the subsequent seven days.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said last year that the 34 hours off can only be taken once a week and must include two 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. periods.
Those rules would be suspended under the spending bill until the study was completed. The remainder of the rules governing mandatory rest periods for truckers would not be affected. -
Yesterday, the Senate and House appropriations committees introduced a funding bill#that would suspend certain provisions of the 34-hour restart rule.
If passed in the House and the Senate, the bill would cut funding for enforcement of the 34-hour restart rule while the FMCSA studies the implications of the restart, and the restart rule would default to the#pre-July 2013 restart provision.

This from the Washington Post:
TRUCKING:
In a victory for the trucking industry, the bill blocks new Transportation Department regulations requiring truckers to get two nights of sleep before starting a new work week. The regulation slashed a typical trucker's work week to 70 hours, down from 82 hours. -
OP it will also lift the restrictions on when you can take a 34hr restart. Of course, its only good for a limited time. It doesn't repeal the rule that messed up restarts. It just puts it off a bit. A year, I think.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
So let me get this straight we now go back to 82 hrs and can reset anytime w/ 34hr rule and it doesn't have to be between two periods of 1-5 am. I'm going need it spelled out I'm a bit slow on the uptake.
