I know a couple of tank guys that log a half hour break every time their unloading...

sometimes it helps them sometimes it doesn't . But it doesn't cost them any time. So why not??

Yeah , I think at min, any duty status besides driving should be allowed to be used toward the 30 min break.

Its comical when you think about it. You can go off duty and do wind sprints for 30 minutes and it's a legal 30 min break. You can pull in a rest stop, sit in the drivers seat and stare at the clock for 30 min (in the same position you've been sitting in for 8 hrs) and its legal. But sitting in the sun in a lawn chair with an iced tea while waiting for product to blow off, isn't.

That doesn't help you when your driving all day and not unloading. Doesn't help you when your unload is at the beginning of the day.

May not be legal but if anyone asks I was sitting in the drivers room. Never touched a hose in my life.

i totally agree, i hate hate hate the 30 minute rule.

Makes the day longer for no good reason.

If you're 8 hours from home (or terminal) now you are 8.5 hours away. How is this helpful?

and if you take your break too early (at say 4 hour mark) because there is a good spot to do it (or you're tired or hungry or whatever) now you have to take yet another one.

At least on paper you could work your way around it, on elogs, full 30 minutes. And now you only get one break instead of 3 10 minute breaks or 6 5 minute breaks. This is better how???????

    HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thirty minute rule definitely makes me push harder and more fatigued when I'm running hard. There are many times I just want a quick fifteen, but it's too early to take it. Then there are times I'm ready to go because I want to shut down, and find myself staring out the window wondering, who heck thought this was a good idea?

Thank the unions for that 30 minute break, that way, they get their driver's paid for another 30 minutes.
