Point taken. Excellent one at that.

But as a company, dry van driver, I happen to LIKE the new way of having two 1-5 AM periods in the restart. Why? Because if I start my 34 under the old way (which will now be the new, "suspended" way) at 5 PM for instance, I can be called on duty for a pickup at 3 AM the very following night, after just ONE nights good sleep. Because at 3 AM is when I would be eligible to run, and for sure some companies are going to take advantage of this and and make folks do more midnight specials if they are able. That's gonna wear people out for sure. Or maybe just me.

I run about 2700-3200 per week now whether on recap or reset. To me that's enough and I can't see any benefit for me, personally, having the opportunity to do more 34's and doing a "real 34" under the suspended rule. Will I be able to run more miles? Doubtful. And even if I could, do I need to? For me, no. Do I want to run more? No. Will there now be an opportunity to mess up my sleep and schedule me to to a pickup in the middle of the night, as soon as I come off the reset? Yes, and I DO NOT LIKE THAT!

    Learn to adapt.

Many people before you have had no problem doing just 34 hours off and having a different sleep schedule.

When I pulled vans there were many times where I'd be sleeping different times. As long as I got my sleep.

Going back to the old rule is good for our guys who work 6 days and off 1. They'll be able to run 1-2 more loads.

It won't affect me since I work 6 and off 2.

Question... if the reset provision of 0100-0500 was "killing" the food distribution folks, how did any distribution get done before the 34 hour reset ever was part of the HOS? Oh, yeah. Recap. The very same thing that has been available from 1939 thru today with no changes whatsoever.

I'm very adaptable. I said "I don't like that". I can adapt to it, but I won't like it.

I can also intentionally extend my day to 7 PM by driving down the street and back, so my restart doesn't begin until after 7PM on any given day. How's that for adapting?

i remember the radio talking about how drivers wanted 11 hours to drive instead of 10. but the 15 left alone.

we get the 11, and everyone complains and wants the 10 back.

i personally thought 10 was too long. but the split made it liveable.

not, drivers didn't want the 11 or the 34 , or the 10 hour deal, that was a mega carrier invention to get em a full 70 after 34 hours off and shoot back out the door

Don't know, and don't care. I just know it (the two 1am. to 5am. days) was...because I have family and friends that drive for Martin Brothers in Cedar Falls (I drove for them for a short time as well before the 1am. to 5am rule)---and THEY tell me it was killing them. And I'd imagine they should know. Next question please.

Personally! I wish they would get rid of the 70 hour 8 day crap! Just leave the 11/14/10 on a daily bases, drive 11, work 3, off duty for minimum of 10, can the rest
