Here's a bit of info that I know is off topic but I figured I'd share it for informational purposes since I found it interesting.
I always thought the placard for diesel was 1993. Until we started delivering to a trucking company in jacksonville that has 1202 placards on their above ground tanks.
At first I thought they had wrong placards up and was going to mention it to someone, then decided to do some re s each before opening my mouth.
Found out that the UN number for heating oil and fuel oil is 1993, but diesel specifically is UN1202, Which they had 1202 placards.
I learn new things about fuel every day. -

In the northeast you can get #2 fuel oil ( home heating oil) it's not uls . It's diesel and it's red....
to the op... You might find somthing on red diesel laws on the Irs website .... -

Kero is also called #1 diesel (sometimes)
Up here the color code is
Brown... Kero
yellow... Diesel
green.... 2 oil
up here many racks have ulsd and Kero arms so you can blend in more Kero for cold weather use..of course Kero costs more than diesel. And you have to keep the red/clear thing strait.... More than one flunky has screwed that one up.....
Separate 2 oil arms for home heating oil...and there's no clear option.... -
DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

Really, the only major difference is the red laced stuff just didn't get road fuel tax applied. Other than that, it is generally the same diesel as the non dye variety. The red dye is only a tax marker. And that explains why the gooberment has such a cow when red dye fuel is discovered in an on road vehicle. They got cheated out of their tax revenues, so they are going to make you pay for it and see the error of your ways.
chalupa, ironpony and "semi" retired Thank this.
