I don't print squat. I have the last 8 days viewable on the qualcomm, or I can fax or email them to an LEO or office if needed. I have been checked and never been asked for a printed copy. I don't have any ability in the truck to print and I am not going to do their job for them. I'll be more than happy to fax or email them to any LEO that wants them.

although some eld do you the smartphone as a display screen, but they are hooked by Bluetooth to the ecmRedForeman Thanks this. -
but on QUALCOMM you need to get something , if you claim the perdiem deduction, logs are how you prove the deduction to irs -
And that is why I download my logs from the Qualcomm as a PDF file, quarterly, and have them on backup. I have the last 3 years logs, all on a disk file folder, backed up onto another drive and on the cloud. Anyone at the IRS, including my youngest son who is an IRS field agent, wants to see my invoices, receipts, logs, etc, I just forward them the PDF files and they can have a ball. I am not required to help them sort it out. That is what my tax dollars pay them for. They want a hard copy, they can feel free to print all they want. I am only required to provide the info, not to print it out for them.

it just basically talks about the newer programs available for logs. and that they're now legal to be used. as per roadside inspections. -
The link to the guidence is ok but the guidence is not binding to the states and no matter what others seem to think, an enforcement officer can ding you for not having printed logs. -
what your saying, is that states can enforce only parts of the rule. and ignore other parts. -

Sounds like arguing about what lessons are in the Bible. You can interpret and do whatever you want.
What I can say is that when I got my level 1 during DOT week, the officer was duly impressed when I presented the last 7 days printed by just reaching over to my briefcase and handing them over right away. Nice and neat and easy to look over. I offered the laptop to view current day or I could print it too. She glanced over one or two printed pages and said don't bother, this looks real good so either it's right or you write good enough fiction I'm not going to find anything.
I'll repeat what skateboardman said a little differently because it bears repeating: electronics will fail at the absolutely worst moment. I don't care if you're using a Qualcomm, a laptop, or a smart phone. That sucker will be flawless and immune from coffee spills and falling off the dash. Until you need to show it.
Separately, not that I have anything to hide, but handing over your laptop or smart phone could be considered a consent to search. The police have enough leeway when it comes to a CMV, and I sure as hell am not giving them even more things to try to hang me with.cnsper Thanks this. -
the program i use has a online backup system. not sure about the tablet apps. but it wouldn't be a problem if my laptop crashed. just buy a new one. they're pretty cheap these days. download and install and syncronize with the server. nothing lost.
wondering if ddl has that feature also. or eclipse. anyone know?
