This is certainly something we have all done, But I have to agree it certain circumstances it is not safe. Although I really Love A Tommies Double Chili Cheese Burger, with Chili Cheese Fries while sitting in rush hour traffic south bound on the 405 freeway headed into Los Angeles, brin in a couple of keys, its legal now. Arlo Guthrie would be proud. Alice, you remember Alice the song was about Alice. Oh never mind.
Tommies Chili Cheese good to at least your elbowsTGUNKEL Thanks this. -

What was the old Burger King commercial," It Takes Two Hands to handle a Whopper". Something tells me this guy was all over the road and that is why the cop spotted him and gave him a ticket. We have all seen it happen. That is the purpose of the distracted driver statutes.
As an aside. For years Volkswagen couldn't figure out why their sales were sliding. They hired an automotive consulting outfit in California. The conclusion: You don't have any cupholders in your cars and your competition has several. Germans don't eat or drink in their cars. They pay attention to their driving and eat later. Not so Americans. We literally live in our cars/trucks. There is a hazard associated with that behavior.
In 1976 I delivered a restaurant interior to a new McDonalds in Grayling MI. At the time NO McDonalds had a drive thru, but Burger King was trying them out. I asked the manager of the new restaurant about the lack of a drive thru. He said we want you to come inside for a better dining experience, we will never have a drive thru. Whooopppss. -
The nerve of this man! Eating while driving, punishment should be hanging
