Hello,
I'm new to this forum, looking forward to interact with fellow trucking company owners. I have been in business for almost 2 years and have 4 trucks. Obviously, I want my company to grow and operate it in much organized way. I was lucky enough to get a descent customer within a year and things are moving well. Moving forward, I am thinking of getting some kind of software to help me to organize work and save some time. I'm not sure if I want such an investment or should I keep doing things manually. I pay to a third party to do all my paperwork. I have been told that some dispatching software's can do pretty much everything for me. I'm operating out of my house in Ajax, ON. Any help or advice will be appreciated? If you have more suggestions about running a small trucking business, please share.
Thank you
Leo

Most of the services you are paying the third party to do, you can do on your own. Once you get the hang of it, it really isn't very difficult.
As for a "dispatching program", I have never really found the need. I get calls and they try to sell it based on helping to keep track of equipment, expenses, yada yada yada, well I am already good at that without a program. I can see it being useful for a company say doing auto parts runs, same thing day in day out and requires updates by certain times, etc. ... but for a small company, I wouldn't bother with it ...
I am a one truck independent and operating also out of Ontario ... closer to Windsor though. Pulling reefer. Glad to see someone else is also making it work.leo123 Thanks this. -
Thank you for sharing the information. One of my friend introduced me to this software called Avaal Express by Avaal and I was amazed by its functionality. I will be visiting Avaal next week to see the demo and they also offer CTPAT certification services, something I am considering. I think it would make sense for me to have some kind of program as there are too many things to be taken care of. Plus, my friend have stopped paying to third parties after getting this software as it organize everything for him including maintenance schedule, which I always end up screwing up and it also does IFTA. I am thinking of entering US soon, therefore its worth consideration.
I agree with you though that for one truck owner, investing all this money probably doesn't make sense but I guess if something can take some of our stress away, its worth a look.

Not sure if anyone is looking at this thread but if you are, then just try Avaal Express and you will be surprised. Its so easy and effective and very affordable. They have various packages, I got Ultra Lite one for 5 trucks and its just what I wanted. Not only it does dispatching, accounting, IFTA, maintenance, brokerage but also create eManifest directly from the dispatching board with a click. They told me that most of the software companies are integrating third party eManifest services, therefore it usually tedious. Avaal make everything in-house, they will also help me to become bonded carrier and CTPAT certified.
ChromeNut Thanks this.
