I think this is the best argument against these annual sleep study tests. what will it change? Nothing, except the wallet. The only situation I could see myself ordering a repeat sleep study on someone with demonstrated compliance and good tolerance with CPAP is if there was some change - like significant weight loss, throat surgery aimed at correcting sleep apnea, decreased alcohol intake and the patient wants to get off CPAP.

Basically some type of change needs to occur to warrant a re-test - and we all change every 5 to 7 years.

I can't sleep when reefers park next to me. I wish it was on my medical card that reefer drivers must not park next to me or they can be towed!

You folks with CPAPs do you still see your sleep doctor annually. I have mine write me a letter with his contact info on it. I take that along with my download. I just tell the DOT Dr that I am in compliance and will not get another test until my sleep dr deems it necessary.

Barring the DOT doctor finding something on physical exam, that's how it should be.

Yes, that makes sense. Unless there's some kind of change, and as long as the compliance info demonstrates the driver is using the CPAP as directed, what does a new sleep study do?

I've taken two in 14 months, won't take another one for at least 4 years, if ever. The CPAP therapy is working.

Great advice from Dr_Fandango44 Also, you most certainly can get a 2nd opinion any time. Just do not lie or change your story/facts. Whether or not you carrier will accept the 2nd opinion is another matter. It might be helpful to share this article on getting a 2nd opinion which is based on an interview with FMCSA staff. http://www.landlinemag.com/Story.aspx?StoryId=27988

I don't disclose I have sleep apnea and use a cpap. Since I use it and don't have sleeping issues, when I renew my medical card, I simply say no to questions saying if I have sleeping problems.

That probably is the best course of action. It seems this whole apnea thing is turning into an even bigger scam than it originally was. Buying the filters, masks, cushions and hoses for that machine throughout the year isn't cheap, now a sleep study on top of that? Ridiculous!

I look at it this way, I'm not being dishonest as my therapy has taken care of my sleeping problems, therefore I have none, lol.
