As winter is fast approaching I was wondering about "pet exemptions".Mostly interested in states east of the Mississippi.I have heard that pets exempt you from state idling laws. Can anyone back that up with facts?I`m starting to think a pet snake would be cool!OF course I will post a small warning sign on the doors for those who are scared of snakes.
I work for a small company who hasn`t purchased APU`s yet.I have an inverter and am experimenting with electric heaters.I can stay warm while I sleep but getting up to start a frigid truck will most certainly affect my health. Are there exemptions for our health and welfare, also?
Really hope someone can respond with the cold hard facts. Thanks in advance.

Pet exemptions are a myth.
psanderson and Brickman Thank this. -
Most co's will not allow snakes and I think the idle for pets is not a law.

Like others have said there are no laws for an individual driver who is transporting pets for companionship in regards to the idle laws that States or the federal government have enacted. However there are laws for their well being if you are engaged in the interstate transportation of animals(not consumption animals). But you need to be a licensed transporter, vet, research facility.Search,Animal Welfare Act 2131-2156.

Get a electric blanket/ mattress pad and shut the truck off. I have let my truck idle only 1 night in the last year since getting mine and that was in the summer when it wouldn't have done any good. Get up in the morning start the truck and crawl back under the blanket for 15 minutes keep your clothes under it with you and all is well

Mostly be careful where you park, The only time anyone said anything to me in New York was at a rest area on I-495 Long Island, I've never been bothered in Massachusetts, but I never park in the service areas on the turnpike. Always turn off your lights when you're sleeping. I know a few troopers who drive through the service areas and harass the guys who sleep with their lights on, not noticing the guys who run the trucks with the lights off.
My cat rides with me, I'll post something here if I ever have a talk with a LEO on the subject. -
I actually got a response from CARB several months ago. I thten actually read the CA law. There is no pet exemption( at least in CA). The way the law is written, if you leave your pet in the truck while you go into the truck stop etc., you MUST leave the truck idling or you are "endangering" the animal. However, once YOU get in the truck, the clock starts for anti-idling. Your pet cant die alone, but if your there its ok! They dont care if YOU are unable to get good rest. Just dont idle that noisy, stinky, polluting our mother, truck! Crazy I know, but thats the way it is.
Baack and andrew5184 Thank this. -
Yeah, I kinda figured as much.Didn`t think there would really be a pet exemption.Still think I may get a snake to keep the "critters" out.I have a 1750 watt inverter and some 12v heaters so I guess I`ll tough it out when I have to.Thank you all for the info.
