| Can it be done legally? I currently work for a construction company and only drive to and from our jobsites which is usually not more than 10 hours from home no problems there. We are getting ready to go from Ohio to a job in Washington. My problem is that I will be driving there with the bossman who wants to drive it straight through 5 hours on and 5 off. I am currently arguing with him that we cannot legally log the trip driving this way. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

| What rick said is true. You also must remember that in order to log in a sleeper. The truck must have one. If you don't have a sleeper on the truck then you must stop for at lest 10 hrs at a motel and log it as off duty AND keep the motel receipts to prove it.

| Sorry about the lack of info. The truck is a Mack Vision w/ sleeper pulling a 48 foot trailer. |

| Then you can use the sleeper berth option. Tell your boss that with todays HOS it would be best to run 10hrs. Switch and let the other guy run 10hrs. You will get there quiker and get bettere rest,

| Yeah play it safe and do the 10/10 switch, that also allows time in between for your meals and personal hygene. When I was OTR team me and the better half did that daily. good luck |

| You could also split it 8/8, 2/2, if 10 hours is too long. Split logging requires an 8 hour sleeper break and a 2 hour sleeper break. |
| |||
| Split sleeper could be done if both drivers had 10 hours off-duty to start: Driver A SB 8 hrs Driver B Driving 8 hrs Driver A Drive for 8 hours Driver B SB for 8 hours Driver A Drive for 3 hours Driver B SB for 3 hours (2 hours is sufficent, however, the extra hour in the SB may prove more restfull, cannot log off-duty when vehicle in motion. 8 + 3 = 11 hours driving) Driver A SB for 8 hours Driver B drive for 8 hours The cycle could continue until the drivers hit the 70 hour clock. Be safe. The drivers could not exceed 11 hours |
