    As part of CSA 2010 it will be imperative for drivers to learn how to properly prepare their log book as form and manner violations fall under the driver fatigue category:

    I expect CSA 2010 will have a severe impact on DataQ Challenges at www.safersys.org as carrier/drivers will have to carefully monitor their data to avoid becoming illegible to operate/drive.

    I can only imagine how many Data Q's will be filed now. I'm sure complaints will go up as well. I've seen much more the last few months from driver's who can not accept that they are not following the regulations. But then again no one accepts responsibility for their actions anymore. Just my observations.

    So does that mean forgetting to sign my logs or writing my total miles for the day is going to carry the same penalties as driving 11.5 hrs or going over 70 hrs worked in 8 days???
    Are you kidding me? How will improper form and manner cause an accident? These lawmakers need to get a grip on reality! Safety is their priority??? Yeah, right!!!

    Well, it looks like with this, Pelosi health care, and all of Obama's plans, the government will gain complete control over every Americans life. They will control every aspect of our life frome cradle to grave, unless we do something about it.

    The SMS uses all safety-based inspection violations while SafeStat uses only OOS violations and selected moving violations from inspections.
    The inclusion of all safety-based inspection violations in the SMS fully leverages the results of the roadside inspection program (3.3 million inspections annually) to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of an entity’s on-road safety performance.
    This is absurd. Sure it has its good points, but what about the under or unemployed? Some of us drive trucks that are not 100% in compliance, but nonetheless safe. Why do we do this? Because we need a job, and unemployment is at a 25 year high.

    Are they going to compare pre/post trip inspections to whether they were fixed or not? Will it state the percentage of drivers that were fired for refusing to drive a vehicle that failed the pre/post trip or noted defects?

    Failure to include shipping document numbers in duty status records

    This is one that I don't understand completely here. Does the trip number issued by dispatch cover this? Are you actually supposed to write the BOL number in the logs? If so, where and when? I never did and no officer ever said anything about it.

    My school, nor my company ever got into this specific rule and I just always assumed the trip number covered it.

    Question 14: What documents satisfy the requirement to show a shipping document number on a record of duty status as found in 395.8(d)(11)?
    Guidance: The following are some of the documents acceptable to satisfy the requirement: shipping manifests, invoices/freight bills, trip reports, charter orders, special order numbers, bus bills or any other document that identifies a particular movement of passengers or cargo.
    In the event of multiple shipments, a single document will satisfy the requirement. If a driver is dispatched on a trip, which is subsequently completed, and then is dispatched on another trip on that calendar day, two shipping document numbers or two shippers and commodities must be shown in the remarks section of the record of duty status.


    So does the trip number given by dispatch count for this or not? I don't see it in the remarks on their example.

    And you better get the right answer cuz the wrong answer could lead to a MAJOR ACCIDENT! People could die if dont write the correct info on our paperwork! UNREAL!!! How the hell does a paperwork mistake have ANY EFFECT ON HIGHWAY SAFETY???
    Get real! This is the stupidest thing (other than national health care) we have ever seen!

    I've never seen a log with that info on it from any driver's log I've seen, which is why I was curious. I always keep the bills in the same folder I keep the logs anyways. Must depend on the bear that's checking your logs too and what kind of mood they're in.

    Obviously, I would think the bears are focused more on HOS violations than anything else. I always do the bare minimum required when it comes to form and manner.

    I noticed there is a not a single requirment for the LEO making the stop to write in legible handwriting and to actually know what they are talking about and doing.

    32 hrs ago I had an inspection at the super coop in Billings, the inspector tried to cite me because one of my riveted taillights was only held in with two rivets instead of 3. He claimed it could possibly fall out, hmmm, the #### thing was in there so tight that when I asked him to show me how it could possibly fall out, he couldn't make it move within the mount. On the inspection form, his writing is so bad, when I showed it to my boss today, she had to call the P.O.E in Billings and ask to speak to the inspector as she couldn't read 90% of what he wrote.

    What about Doctors? Geez you can never read their chicken scratch lol.
