I just did the physical in wisconsin and they said the measure for sleep apnea is
1 a bmi over whatever the number was, sorry I forgot
2 high blood pressure
3 they took a tape measure and measured my neck, I think the cut-off was 17 in
The doctor noted the figures in the margin of my physical examination report and next to it wrote "risk factors for". The rest is illegible.

Has anything more been heard about this?

I got my physical renewed a couple of days ago, and there was no mention at all about bmi. Maybe it just depends where you go for it.

Thanks mslashbar.

I got my card renewed in Minnesota back in Feb. My doctor had no idea about any of this at their clinic. I only weigh 170lbs and am 5'8" so i am not a huge guy, but he said they weren't doing it for anyone. He was aware that some places are doing it, and he agreed with me that it is crossing the line and will cost us a lot of money.

So if you are big you can't drive a truck and make a living? What #########. African Americans are more at risk for hypertension therefore should we ban Blacks from driving trucks too?
mattbh23 Thanks this. -
There is no current rule in effect for this.
If a Doctor is making you do a sleep study, and you did not answer questions on your form that would lead him to request that you take a test it is one of 2 things.
1. He is wrong
2. It is a company policy for the company you are working for.
Even once the notice of proposed rule makeing comes out, there is a comment peorid and then a wait of close to a year for the rule to ramp up. So it will be at least 2 years before it will go into effect. If they even pass it.
No numbers are in efect for the BMI, that would be in the rule making.
I have a neck over 17", even when I am at optimal weight.
I also have a BMI over 30, but the number is like 36 or so they are kicking around, I may even be above that at the moment.
But I am not at all concerned at the moment, since there is no rule and will not be for at least several years. I do not have apnea, I know this.
If I went to a Doc that wanted me to take a test before this rule is out I would tell him to blow me, and go to a real Doc that is not getting kickbacks from a sleep center.
