Hi All, I'm looking for seasonal employment preferably starting in June time frame last 4-6 months. In lieu of leasing a truck where I could take off the time (if payment in the bank) I would rather work for someone, then lease. I normally travel back and forth overseas (have wife and kids in Thailand). I'm a new driver about 5 months OTR refrigerator experience and 3 months straight truck expediting. Currently sitting butt in Thailand sucking down the heat, warming bones from this past winter in the states Any leads would be appreciated....Thanks....

I have a home in Thailand also. Where are you from in the states? I would love to have a seasonal job also. I have been looking at harvest type jobs, I am from Florida so I am looking at citrus. I think I can work 8 months a year and spend the other 4 in Thailand. I know in the fall I can get a yard dog job at a juice plant that pays about $900 per week for 5 days. I am working in the oilfields now but would LOVE seasonal.

I'm out of Georgia about 25 miles out of the Atlanta area (Duluth), in Thailand I have a small home in Nong Bua Lam Phu and a larger home in a village bout 45 clicks away in a place called Bahn Simon near Sir bung Ryung. How about you where are you located in Thailand when you stay?
I applied to a company called Morning Star but have heard nothing back they are located in California primarily doing tomato crops. Other then that I may go back to a company doing expediting in a straight struck (sleeper otr type work) or if I could find a decent lease, which seems near to impossible, do a lease with the intent that if I save money and can pay lease I could split for a month working 4 on 1 off. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them.
Thanks -
Why would you wanna be away from your family for a few months? They would miss you terribly I would think. Its doubtful you'll find any company that is seasonal unless its construction or driving for a farmer.

I know few drivers who have homes overseas and drive for 8 months and spend the rest of the year in Asia, Europe or Africa. So don't listen to these naysayers who know nothing about what's available out there. I have a friend who works for 7 months straight, turns his truck in and flies to Europe. He stays there for 3 or 4 months before coming back to work for the same company. And they always welcome him with open arms. He's been doing it for 5years now. So my advice to you is to shop around. I am 100% sure you'll find something that fits your needs. Good luck

Hi Pattyj,
Well, I've lived like this for years normally working overseas with 3 months on 1 month off or a 6 and 1 rotation. I've had the normal jobs in the states, however working for some great companies it is unfair of me to take more time off then allotted. I actually stayed in Thailand for 2 years, oh MY GOD!!! the boredom nearly killed me, so seasonal work would be the way to go.
Thanks..... -
Thank you -
try hauling household goods (moving). It's seasonal. June-Sept are the busy months.

Hmm, I haven't made the move to becoming a driver yet as my business is doing OK, but will do so either in a couple of years or if business dries up. Sort of life planning / thinking, would ideally like to drive OTR for a couple a few years to get the experience and learn. Then was thinking it would be great to try and run OTR for say 6 months on, then bugger off to Thailand or Phil or elsewhere for 6 mths, and then repeat the process until I croak. Interesting to read a few of the above posts, anyone care to comment or know of people who are doing this? Is it possible? Thx Glenn
