    Nettts and Me

Well I have read almost everything in this forum. All kinds of info on good companies and bad companies. How some love working for this company and how some hate the same company with a passion. I like to do my homework. Before enrolling at Nettts in Somers CT. I checked out just about every cdl training option under the sun. Many offered the moon and of course would only deliver on part of there promises. CR England was trying to get me on a plane to Texas after 3 minutes on the phone. Very shady business in my opinion. Others offered similar options but my life experience has taught me if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.

I started class at Nettts a few months ago and shortly will be starting my field training portion of the 480 hr course. The classroom sessions (I am in the afternoon) is taught by a VERY knowledgeable instructor who has gone out of his way on multiple occasions for anyone who has ask for some extra assistance. I have not heard a question ask or ask one myself that he didn't have a answer for,all from practice not theory. That counts for me I mean anyone can read a book. Now before you say yeaaaa Shadow Nettts is for me, remember one thing. You get out what you put in. There are people in the class sleeping, crying about having to take a drug test, showing up late and having to make up days, flunking written tests that were basically read out to them the day before and lying about there past (ie: criminal and dmv records). So I think what the hell do you expect. I have aced all three tests thus far and I am no genius I just give a ####. The school has its down sides as all things do but over-all I am satisfied so far. I may be in a more favorable financial situation than most and just saved money and paid for the course out right. This was more for my head than anything else. I would have NEVER done something like that without checking very carefully the type of school this was. Lots of students at Nettts make me wonder each day why they even bothered enrolling, and after reading all the negative opinions of trucking companies on this forum I begin to wonder what all the truckers that don't bother with a forum think of the companies that are being bashed here. Maybe they don't have time to ##### they are to busy going down the road and handling there business like a pro. Now I am not saying there isn't shady outfits dogging drivers out there don't get me wrong, but what I do know is there are very few people out there that admit they screwed up and were wrong. Accountability for ones actions is hard but also very cleansing.

I would Nettts a 8 out of 10 on my humble Shadow Meter so far. Recruiters from Roehl,Werner and Swift have been in since I started and of course these guys could sell used tampons to a tube tied nun. But I guess that is there job. I will update this thread as time passes and hope this helps anyone considering a cdl school in this part of the world.

ok it wouldnt be fair to just act like all was roses so here is some for the other side. the class is suppose to be 240 hours and after the last 2 days of wasted time listening to the instructor talk about masonic lodge crap and his vacation in wherever the hellville I thought I was gonna loose it..I like to take the glass half full approach to life but even humble ones like myself have there breaking point and today I reached mine..I didnt say anything but did gain a new mind set on this school..if I was to add up the time in the last two days we spoke about trucking it wouldnt amount to much more than a hour or so..pretty lame considering I was in class for over 9 hours combined for monday and tuesday..

I went to this school to learn and get my cdl but I am slowly understanding you cant teach cdl for 240 hours of class time..it just doesnt require that much,so they have these instructor fill the rest of the time with complete off topic BS..

I will get back here as often as I can to contribute my 2 cents..but as for today NETTTS is wasting my time and pissing me off..

Thursday was lots more general knowledge stuff and I mean lots more..if someone in my class fails to get there permit on the first try then maybe they have a learning defect of some kind..its like army training..over and over and over..but passing is the key i suppose..not a bad day over-all..still liking it..

tons of stories..I mean this instructor was telling stories all day..really quite disrespectful of us students talking about things that dont have to do with trucking..so a 240 hour course is to much..but I guess this is how they get there fed money..boring Thursday at nettts...

One thing you must know is if you have any record at all especially DUI's or any felonies they will not tell you that is going to totally limit you as to which if an jobs you will be able to get.

hey man, i went to nettts in rhode island. also did the 480 course. what a nightmare but i learned alot. definately a great school but with them you need to make the effort. alot of people look for a easy handout and they dont give you one. the instructors were great also, very knowledgeable people. although everytime i was there i kept asking myself why 75% of the students there even bothered. like you said they were complaining about drug test or sleeping.

Shadow, I guess you "forgot" to update the post. As someone who is about to enroll, I am curious as to how it all worked out.

I'm at Nettts now... I agree with Shadow... there is a lot of classroom time going off subject. I also agree with Cranky, I think it is one of the best CDL schools.
Before starting at Nettts and even now I try to talk to as many truckers as I can to see what their experience is like with companies, schools and training methods. Some drivers were surprised when I mentioned (6 months) the length of the program I'm in. Some said that they only went to school for a short time like four weeks. I wouldn't mind a short program like that, but, then again, if I'm gonna be driving an 80,0000 lbs vehicle I want some thorough training.
At Nettts you get good textbook and drilling time, plus... a lot of trucking stories. Oh man, I feel like some of the instructors were the inspiration for the movie "Big Fish"... they love telling fishing stories, ya know?
In the end you'll get what you put in and if you are serious you will learn... some students just aren't serious enough. Don't forget that after you get your CDL and get in a company that you have on the road training to go through, as well.
