Driving School at DCCC Mocksville, NC

    Day 3
Friday is our classroom day so really all book stuff that is needed, but does not make for the most riveting post.
Monday we hit the trucks. And I think I will be in the group that goes out, the other half stays and works on the training trucks, then we swap every other day.

all day in the class would really be trying lol especially with the group i was with. when i was there we did 2 hrs each day in class then the rest or the day road or yard. honestly though i think it's a better format doing it with one day devoted to classwork. i think some of those who didn't have prior knowledge or the ones who just didn't get it or were having trouble with the bookwork suffered the way they did it when i was there. probably better the way they've got you guys doing it now

you know what i discovered yesterday? coupling and uncoupling isn't nearly as hard as i thought it would be. i certainly haven't gotten good at it yet, but it's not bad. i hope i learn to feather that clutch pretty soon!!! )

If you are looking for a program that just takes you to a point where you can get a CDL, then DCCC ain't for you. I was talking to one of the instructors and he was telling me how the driving maneuvers we were doing now would get harder. I was thinking by the end of this we'll be doing things with a truck that on the first day may have seemed impossible to us.
Looking foward to the learning and the challange.

Today was our first day driving on the road. Cool, I did miss a few gears but all-in-all not bad. Tomorrow it's back on the pratice yard.

    Day 6

Yesterday was a range or yard training day for my group. Today we went out driving. I have taken fairly well to the high gear stuff but the low gear stuff I have found harder. I do ok but miss more gears than I should. Ol well maybe with more work I'll get it.

    First Full Week

Looking back the first week I see things I have learned, as well as places I still have much to learn. Straight backing has gone fairly well, pre-trip is coming along, coupling is good, and foward obsticel course is good. On the road my hi-gear shifting if good but the low-gear timing just isn't there yet, but maybe next week will go better with that. Today is Friday so it's class day and books.

Been too busy to post the last few days.
Today is range or yard day where I work on backing, coupling and such. I don't have to deal with road driving again until tomorrow. After three times road driving I'm really no closer to picking up the rythurm of low gear shifting than I was the first time. They rotate you in trucks and instructors here while driving so the next time I drive it will be with a differiant truck and teacher, I'm ready for the change.

030 and 031 you have to shift very low rpm and quick. 900-1000 no more and row through them really quick. Soon as you grab one you already have to be going for the next one. 081 is alot more forgiving you can almost shift it anytime but the rpm range is a little higher. You already have gotten the high range and figured out slower shifts and higher rpm as the ratios space out but you really gotta shift low and quick in the low range and it'll fall right in there.
