I just received my CDL through some joint venture with the state and the military. The trucking company is called Driving for America and they are based out of Detroit. They do put you through an assessment so if you have a background that could limit you getting a job they will must likely turn you away because they could not place you, they do a pre screen drug test, and require you get you TIP before starting the program. If you want information please shoot me your contact info or I can shoot you the persons email address as I do not want to put his email address out there for everyone to see and they spam his inbox.
I received my CDL for free and this was a free 3 week program and it is based out of detroit, mi.
Michigan Veterans only though sorry!

Here is some additional resources for Veterans, just scratching the surface, really.
Veterans who are not residents of Michigan can use their GI Bill at Sage, and I think USA Truck's school will soon be eligible for Post GI Bill chapter 33 as well. This includes money for housing. If you are over the age of 35, and a veteran you can also use Voc Rehab, the ebenefits website has an app for that as well.
Also check out a couple of trucking companies that have their own schools and hire veterans at, www.wehireveterans.com -
Cjh_army Thanks this.

Good to hear, as anyone going through the VA Post 9-11 program needs to apply AT LEAST 60 days before the start date of the class you want to go through. Mine was a pain in the butt. It's cool that some of these states are coming up with classes are more immediate than waiting months at a time. -
Swift is also doing a "scholarship" for vets, You pay nothing for school as long as you stay 12 months...

31third can u send me that contact information. Thanks

Don't forget thousands of drivers that went to Swift's school had their CDL's revoked and had to be retrained elsewhere a few years ago .
No matter where vets get their training most hiring is done by low paying high turnover bottom feeder carriers.
Training is better careers is available for smart vets. -
I received Vet funding and attended West Michigan CDL in Grand Rapids, MI. They did most of the leg work, I just had to show my DD 214 to the organization that was providing the funding and fill out some paperwork. I finished the class and got my CDL last Thursday.
I would recommend doing a private school over a starter company, if you have the funding. West MI CDL was a great place.
