    Hi
I've been thinking about getting into trucking. I have done my homework and I'm having trouble choosing a school. I was thinking of going to Hi-Desert truck driving school, but they teach on very old trucks that are 6 speeds. Then, there is Exclusive truck driving school in the San Fernando Valley. They teach one-on-one on newer 10 speed trucks. The problem is that I can't get any good reviews on the schools. Exclusive's website is expired, and I would like to know if anyone on here has heard about these schools. If anyone knows any other good schools close to Los Angeles please let me know

    Thanks

One driver from Los Angeles, posted on here, maybe a year ago, he got free CDL training through a program with Goodwill Industries. I have no idea how to apply for that.

There is a Roadmaster in Fontana. If funding is a problem, JBS Carriers will pay for you with a payroll deduction to pay it back.

This school has a good reputation for job placement : Jose G Campos Truck Driving School in Santa Rosa

I am starting Alliance School of Trucking in Chatsworth tomorrow (July 22). They work with mainly veterans and it is approved by The State of California for WIA and CTB training. If you are a veteran or on unemployment I recommend looking at them.

If your on the southeast side of Los Angeles, there's a school in the city of Bellflower. Check out their website and give them a call regarding their training equipment. The California Unemployment Dept uses their school to train people for new careers. Good Luck. www.cit-la.com/truck.html

Thanks everyone. I will check out alliance, in chatsworth today, and I will let everyone know my decision. I looked into the Goodwill trucking school and right now it's only going on in North Carolina

I just left Alliance, and I spoke to Rob. They made me feel comfortable about my decision to pursue driving as a career. I'm a veteran and applied for the VRAP program. Their trucks are clean and they have access to loading docks. Thanks for letting me know about the school. I'm also pleased that they have one-on-one training. Thanks again Gunner, and I told them about your post to the site. You should ask for a discount :)

The CA Unemployment Department also uses other schools in Los Angeles. Dootson, Hi-Desert, Dolphin, Alliance & Exclusive. CIT is not the best school for you if you want to be a trucker, they are OK if you want a license in Forklift operation or Cranes, but Pick a TRUE TRACTOR TRAILER SCHOOL anyone of the above mentioned are good. I telling you from experience. 3 Years OTR @ Schneider, moving on to Biagi Bros. in September! Hoo-Ah!

    Are you sure about Goodwill?
I'm in North Texas Institute right now.
    It's run by Goodwill Industries...

Just look at the companies around your area an find the ones that use 48 ft trailers and give you 160 hours of training. If you don't have a buddy in a trucking company that will hire you with No exp. you might be stuck without a Job after school. I went through Roadmasters in Fontana Ca and went to work with Swift after graduation. I know some of the VA approved schools and the ones the CAJobs are highly recommended. The CA class A licence is tough but is accurate. GL with your choice.

I have seen Goodwill run in Texas and Indiana, just not in California.
