Can anyone recommend a trucking school in the Ftw/Dallas area? I have a son interested in getting into trucking. Ive been driving for some time and have no idea who is good for a beginner to get CDL.

There is always the option of going with a company owned school but i hear that the pay after school is extremely low. If someone can verify that with cpm that would be great.

Any advice from those of you that have been recently down this road please respond, its appreciated.

Im thinking the best route is a driving school and then a decent company would be the best.

Yes, a private CDL school would be best if he want the big paychecks fast. By big paychecks, I mean annual pay of $60K+ right out of CDL school. Those jobs are the hazmat/tanker jobs and some of those companies only hire from certain CDL schools. I believe he has to be 23 yrs. old for those jobs. If he's interested in any of these companies, he should call and ask which school they accept.

    Superior Carriers
    Tidewater Transit
    Schneider Bulk
    Trimac Transportation
    CTL Transportation
    Groendyke Transport
    SVTN

2 yrs. with Trimac and passing the qualifications for their "elite fleet" he can make $100K+ per year.

If hazmat/tankers don't interest him, there's several good trucking company schools.

Millis Transfer - runs Eastern half of USA.
Midwest-coast Transport - runs 48 states. One of their terminals is in Ft. Worth.
Raider Express - in Ft. Worth, refrigerated company.

I have found MT Training Center in Grand Prairie, TX. I have a meeting with them on the 29th. They sound decent and they only charge $3500.

I haven't met them in person yet though so who knows, but I'd say it's something to check out if you are interested.

I'm leaning toward tanker with Prime or Schneider at least for the first year.

They will let you haul tanker right out of school. Ive hauled tanker and from what ive seen you have to have experiance 1st. Let me know, and thanks for the replies.

Yes. Prime will for sure. That is my first choice. They also have a school but I'm going to a separate CDL school so I'm not obligated to Prime.

You don't need experience with any of the tanker companies I listed. Sure, the websites may have "experience required" but they do hire new CDL grads from certain CDL schools with no experience. These companies bend their own hiring rules for high quality applicants.

Prime tanker is OK. They haul food grade, not hazmat.
