Drivers;
I still have my CDL license and medical up to date. I have been out out the business several years. I am looking to re-enter the driving arena d/t a slow down in the oil business.
Does Transport America have the best training to enter the market again?

The first company I would contact is Schneider Bulk (tankers). They hire drivers with a recent refresher course. Refresher course usually last about 5 - 10 days. There's some private CDL schools with refresher training.
You have 10 yrs. prior experience, so that's a big plus.
CTL Transportation has a 3 week program. Tankers is where the money is for someone getting started again.
Can't help you with Transport America; not familiar with them. $60.00 a day training pay isn't much & depends on when that starts.
Where is your location? -
In most states it a refresher course is 80 hours long and runs about $1,200.00 or you have to find a company that offers a refresher course and work for them for 6 months.

All Freight Systems, Inc. in Kansas City, Ks has a no charge refresher course. They base it upon your work history and your 10 year MVR if you will be allowed in the program. It is also based upon where you live and since I can't find your city/state this is about all the help I can give you. www.allfreightsystems.com No, I don't work for them any more. (Most the runs take you west, most of the time the farthest east they go is the Cinnci area unless you live in a further east city, state.)

Do you need to keep up a current medical to keep your CDL current say if you want to return to driving in 10 years
Or do you just redo the license at DMV -
Yes, each state has a self certification for your medical card. You will get a notice from the DMV that you med card will expire. If the card expires you have a class C or D (cars only) until your medical card certification is updated. If a driver has a CDL and surrenders it in, they have 5 years(plus any other time left on the surrender CDL) to reinstate it with out having to do everything all over again. The CDL is only current as long as the medical card is valid.
kiwi23 Thanks this.
