I have a 1999 International with a Cummins N14 Celect, the previuos owner oh the engine about 150K ago , yesterday the compressor shaft split in two and forced me to replace the shaft, bushing, and the seal. I called the previous owner and he told me that he had replaced the shaft twice since he owned the truck. Right now im thinking that its gonna be the compressor pulley being bent and unbalanced wich puts stress on the the shaft. Any help would be appreciated
N14 Cracked the Compressor shaft 3 times!!

AC compressor or Air Compressor?
-
air compressor
-
seeing as I have never seen an air compressor on an N14 that is belt driven. And if you break the crank on an air compressor, you would replace it not change the bearings and seals. Just a thought.
-
Is it breaking the accessory drive shaft attached to the front cover, or the air compressor shaft itself? The compressor is actually gear driven through the accessory drive in the front cover, and the pulleys/belts are also driven off the front of this meaning the belts dont actually drive the compressor.
-
and when you install the air compressor, Cummins highly recommends finding TDC on compressor and TDC on 1st Piston of engine.
There might be a reason why. -
You need to replace the harmonic balancer when you do the shaft... problem solved.

the accesory drive shaft i checked the pulley in front cover and it was crooked replacing it now Thank You everyone

Hello I would like to know if any on could tell me were I could find out how to do this job. I have a N-14 in a 1996 International and the accessory shaft is twisted off. It looks like to me the front cover was replaced because it has the exta supports in it. And also what would cause this to happen? It has new water pump, Air Conditioer pump and clutch, Clutch fan, Air compressor, Fuel Pump, Oil Pump, Power Steering Pump, and Alternator. I guess I replaced it all but that shaft and now it's broke. I could use all the help I can get. Pic's and prints and any and all Help would be appreated.

ok i thought it was solved but i was wrong i sold the truck on july but the new owner gave me a call an hour ago that the shaft broke again. He's gonna get the shaft replaced in Houston and haul a s s back to wisconsin to the shop. I replaced everything on this truck but now im thinking the air compressor might be the one to blame because the original owner replaced it twice then i replaced it 3 times and now the new owner is gonna replace it again so thats 6 shafts in 11 years. On these internationals there is a huge pulley on the front because they only use one belt so i think im gonna go back in time and replace the fan clutch and the pulley and the front housing for the older n14's or Big Cams and see what kind of results i get because this is driving me crazy because all shafts break at the same exact place. Any help will be greatly appreciated THANK YOU
