Hello I would like to know if anyone could tell me were I could find out how to do this job. I have a N-14 in a 1996 International and the accessory shaft is twisted off. It looks like to me the front cover was replaced because it has the exta supports in it. And also what would cause this to happen? It has new water pump, Air Conditioer pump and clutch, Clutch fan, Air compressor, Fuel Pump, Oil Pump, Power Steering Pump, and Alternator. I guess I replaced it all but that shaft and now it's broke. I could use all the help I can get. Pic's and prints and any and all Help would be appreated.

Twisted off? Where at? That is a pretty hefty piece of metal to just twist off. Air compressor seize up?

It twisted off were it hold's the pully on. Truck still runs builds air pressure. The pully runs water pump,air cconditioner and clutch fan they are all new and none of them ore froze up

twisted off between the pulley and gear housing? how's that possible? the pulley, obviously belt driven would not have enough torque to twist that shaft...if anything locked up the belt would bust. are sure it twisted apart? i know it sounds like a dumb question, but we should be sure of the failure.

the accessory shaft twisted off twice on my n14 also replaced everything that i could think of that might of caused the problem and it turned out it was the pulley that was bent and knocked the shaft out of balance put a brand new pulley and no problem ever since

YEP it twisted off. And thanks that sounds like the smart thing to do is replace the pully when I do it. But realy need help with doing this. I'm not sure want I'm getting in to. Looks like I have to take off that front cover and if I'm right it supports the front of the cam shaft in there to me. I'm not sure what is all in there and what I need to know about putting it back together. Also does that cover hold the front of the motor up? Does it go around the crank shaft? Any idea of how or why the pully would get out of ballance?

mine twisted off at a truck stop so i had to replace it in a parking lot . I started like at 4 and by noon i had the truck running again. I don't recall messing around with the front cover but don't quote yet ill try to remember. You just remove the fuel pump, the air compressor and its pretty much straight forward repair. One thing that you might want to consider is that they sell the shaft separately or they sell the complete assembly if you buy the shaft alone you will need a machine shop to press it in for you i bought the complete assembly it was expensive though ($750) because scrap yard refused to sell it separately but anyway i called the previous owner and he said the shaft had already split before and that the cummins told him that the force of the impact had bent the pulley out of shape but that it needed to be ordered but the guy just told him to put it back together and that he'll have it replaced next trip the thing is he never replaced it . WOW I never thought of taking it out from the back like that. When you pulled the fuel pump, air compressor, houseing between air compressor and motor block. You didn't have any trouble getting the gear out from the back? And how about getting it back in? sounds like a great idea. Thanks

the only trouble that i ran into was once i had the truck running and i had to clean up tools it started to rain but other than that everything was good
