Any of you guru's know what could cause the speedometer to be broken on my 2006 Volvo 670. All the other guages work fine.
I took it to the shop about 2 weeks ago and they replaced the speed sensor, but now its broken again, after about 5k miles.
Thanks!!!

bad speed sensor ore gauge motor?
Do you have speedo reading on J1939 CAN? sometimes small step motor inside instrumental cluster fails and VECU. ECM and other system get speed signal, but no speedo reading.
To be sure: do you have engine power derate? Do you have speed sensor fault codes in VECU (MID144)? -
I try to add:
VSS is connected to VECU. all other systems use VECU SPEED DATA on J1939 and as redundance J1708/1587.
If VSS is bad you will see CHECK CAB(VECU) UNIT AT NEXT STOP.
If you try to pull codes (MENUIAGNOSTICS:FAULT DIAGNOSTICS: VEHICLE CONTRILL UNIT) you will get MID 144 PID 84 FMI XXX code.
VECU disables Cruise controll, engin braking, engine speed is limited (1200 rpm), autoshift/i-shift operate in manual mode only.
if you have no these issues, the steper motor is bad. it is usual thing if you like to drive truck with open windows... -
Since you are not complaining about any engine problems or anything else, it's most likely the stepper motor itself. Each gauge has one on that cluster.
I checked and it's a x2151.32.4 stepper motor.
You can call Southern Electronics and probably buy one cheaper than at the dealer.
They deal mostly with all cars but they deal with Volvo truck clusters parts also.

I use to collect all faulty instrumental clusters with different problems to use them as donors for motors and LCD screent!
