hi all, my truck takes to long to start and i think it is a fuel pump issue, truck runs good once started and idles good. i have checked (as per cummins workshop manual) for air leaks and there are NO air leaks. I can not check fuel pressure because i dont have the tools. i read the trouble shooting section and it says it maybe the fuel pump check valve or regulator or "O" rings. so im going to buy a new check valve and try that, but i can not find any info on the regulator, like a diagram,
Im hopeing someone here has a fuel pump diagram that shows the regulator or have instructions on how to repair/replace the regulator. p.s also if some has instruction on re-"O"ringing the fuel pump that would also be greatly appreciated.

Probably just debris from the fuel tank is caught in the check valve. I had that happen a few times with mine. It was getting small pieces of aluminum from the fuel tank. The celect engine needs 22 PSI to get the fuel past the injectors.
Take the check valve off and clean it and out it back in.It's located along the block straight up from the fuel filter and fuel pump. Just disconnect the hose from the brass fitting and pull it apart.AUSSIE DAVE Thanks this. -

the valve is located on the ecm cooling plate.the plate has fuel going through it to help cool the ecm.the check valve looks like a regular fitting and can be straight or 90 degrees.the newer ones can be taken apart and cleaned.the older ones may have to be replaced.if you are going to change it,it would be a good idea to remove fuel line from inlet to cooling plate also and blow air backwards through plate to clean it out also.good luck!

I checked the fittings attached to the ECM cooling plate and there is no check valve, so im guessing that the previous owner at some time changed the fuel line and didn't replace the check valve fitting, so i rang Cummins and they want $240.00 for the check valve (screw them) so i went to my local hose repair shop and they can make me one up for under $80.00

good job!way to use your head.the check valve here in the states costs around $80.don't forget to blow air backwards through the cooler to clean it out while you have it apart.

once this truck goes, that C word will not grace my vehicles again.
Cummins used to be brown, now are red..
I think the color change was to reflect what happens when a brown motor owner goes in for parts and is given the shaft Cummins Style.. -
Donk Thanks this.
