I have seen it done with charcoal. Another trick is to drain the coolant and keep it in the hotel overnight.

Anyway, IMO, if you run your truck in Syberia - install auxially water heater (like thermo 90, hydronic...) and install APU. Add fuel tank heaters, thermoline and heated fuel filters.heyns57 Thanks this. -
I'd rather just run an APU to keep it warm. Is it really that hard to get these trucks started? I'v started a diesel bus in -10F and just used glow plugs then turned the key. A little extra cranking but she started right up. I would think as long as your diesel isn't frozen it should start.
