Hello,
I have a 2006 International 9200 w Cummins 450 ISX. It has been running and starting great. I get in it today and it cranks over fine but no fire. Lights are blinking for low oil pressure and water temp. Also the gauges for batteries, mph, tack etc go over normally then all jump to maxed out. Seems like some type of electrical issue.
Anyone have any help or ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like a dash module problem. Did you try cycling the key off and back on to see if guages would make it through self check?
-
Seems like they run fine through self check...they go all the way up then back down to normal for a couple seconds then all shoot to maxed out.

Your ECM is seeing the same values that you are seeing on the guages and won't allow it to start until they are within parameters. Replace the dash module, the circuit board is wacked. You can purchase a bare module with circuit board and transfer your guages and bulbs. That should take care of it.

Those gauges are feed data from the engine. If the dash module isn't getting any information the gauges will all point to 6 o'clock as a diagnostic indicator. Sounds like the ECM for the engine isn't properly booting up. Check the wiring for the ECM power, it is usually a separate dedicated harness from the batteries. Should be a fuse in line either at the batteries or near the ECM. Never seen a bad dash module cause a no start!

So What's triggering the alarm? False data or no data?
-
The dash itself is responsible for the alarms. The ECM only sends the information through usually a 1708 data link. All the gauges and lights mentioned in the OP, even the volt gauge are feed data from the ECM. Once the gauge itself goes under or over a preset safety temp or pressure the cluster is programmed to set the alarm and it will start to beep. If the cluster is getting bad, no, or corrupt data the gauges, lights and alarms will go crazy and ping pong all over until they give up and point straight down indicating a fault. If you ever update the calibration file or program a Cummins ECM, or any other engine too, in a 9000 series the entire time the ECM is being programmed the cluster has lost communication with it and goes crazy, kinda funny looking. Even with a data link or cluster failure the engine should still start unless the ECM itself is fried or something.

Thanks, that's good to know.

Wat possibility is it for the ECM to be fried? I have the same issue with an 9200i Cummins ISM. already ran all the test u have mentioned an done everything. the only last thing to do is have the ECM replaced, an I would rather avoid that expence. -
