Had my engine checked with INSITE the other day . No codes , but I saw a " warning" , last thing on the page the mechanic was looking at . He ignored it. It was " Intermittent or erratic reading from Oil Pressure Sensor. "
While it didn't throw a code , I'm wondering if , because of the warning , the ECM is Derating the engine.
I understand this sensor is located behind the fuel filter , and is pretty darn expensive. Worth replacing ?

All depends on what page he was looking at on Insite. If there were no fault codes when you came in (Active or Inactive) and you have not had the faults cleared recently then I would not worry too much about it. If the last page he looked at was labeled "Engine protection history" all that information is saved forever in the ECM that fault could have been 3,000 hours old. But if you have no faults period on the fault screen then the ECM is more than likely not derating the engine. There are faults that will log that will not notify the operator, it will however log what is called "An ECM related fault only" meaning that tech who is connected to insite can read it and the ECM sees there has been an issue.

Yep, I wouldn't worry about that. Probably just history as mentioned. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Well, I am dealing with a problem , and grasping at straws , right now. Had the Turbo replaced , a rebuilt turbo controller installed , there are no codes , but I'm only getting 26 lbs of boost , maximum. Fuel mileage is suffering , and I'm at a loss to figure out why.
This is an 06 , ISX , and I have gotten close to 8.5 mpg , in the past , running empty. Now , even empty , I'm lucky to get 6 . Loaded is less than 5 .
Had the EGR delete done , and Stage I tune , but it hasn't helped. Had overhead run , Charge Air checked , air filters replaced , and more.
Got the INSITE program , on my notebook , but I've spent so much on repairs , the last 30 days , I haven't ordered the USB adapter , to hook it up with yet.
So, I see there might be a problem with the oil pressure sensor , and I'm thinking , Engine Derate. That could explain a lot , maybe ? -

Anything causing a derate, being low oil pressure, or high temps will cause a check engine light as those parameters are operating out of normal range. If you aren't getting and warning lights I think your temps and oil pressure is fine. I don't get into deleted egr systems too much. Was the mileage and boost problem there before or after your mods were done?

Have you pulled the boost sensor from the intake and inspected it?howabout the exhaust manifold gaskets isx always blow manifold gaskets, you really need to have it ran on a dyno to check the blow bye and such
pawpaw1 Thanks this. -
As to the boost , until d
Dec. I had no way to monitor it , so I don't know. -
Dont really want to pull the intake manifold , unless I have to. What would I be looking for ? Plugged up ?
As to exhaust , no leaks. Everything is good and tight.
i have a digital tach now , and on a pull , it will drop 30-35 RPMs , for a second or two , then pick right back up , with boost pressure falling , as the RPMs fall.
As to a Dyno , I haven't done that.
I have a miss , I guess you could call it , at idle. It will run at 600 RPM , drop about 5-15 , pick up to about 607, or so , drop about the same , etc. worse when the engine is cold.
As to blow by , crankcase is vented to outside air , and , considering the miles on the engine ( 850,000) , it doesn't seem excessive. -
I have no experience with tuned ECMs, but that is a big mystery that may be behind some if not all of your problems. I would go back to who ever tuned the ECM with what ever software they used and make sure it is correct for your application. Something may be amiss in the programming. Once the software have been checked and verified, then go onto hardware stuff.
