Someone recently told me that to adjust brakes on your truck you adjust the steers and the first drive axle the yellow valve out. Is this true? Ive always pushed it in then adjusted on all axles

The brakes have to be released to adjust them, if the yellow button / tractor parking brake is out the brakes are then applied and against the drums, how could then adjust the brakes, unless I am not under standing what your saying.......

A steering axle does not have a spring brake chamber. It is a service brake chamber so regardless if the parking brake ("yellow valve") is set, the wheels will turn freely. Yes, to adjust spring brakes (other axles) you must release them before you adjust them. This is of course if you have manual slack adjusters which you probably do not. They are probably automatic slack adjusters which should not be adjusted but rather replaced if they are out of adjustment.
