    Freightliner Glider Speedometer Issue

    I am having trouble with a 2013 Columbia glider. 2 issues: the speedometer registers max mph at any speed over 73 mph (odometer also racks up extra miles when this occurs) and recently the truck has started missing at 69 mph and only at this speed (we can go up to 68 or 71+ with no issues.) We replaced the vss speed sensor already and 3 different shops can't seem to fix this issue. The engine is a reman '98 12.7 Detroit but several Detroit shops think that the engine ecm is not the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's not a huge problem since I plan on running this truck to 1 mil+ if possible, but it would be nice to cruise at 69 or 70 mph without the miss.

    It's under warranty, to take it somewhere that has a dyno/rolling road and replicate the problem. While it is acting up, they can test the VSS signals at various points etc.

    Unfortunately we now have 126,000 miles on the clock and it's out of the Freightliner warranty. Detroit warranty is good to 300,000 but they say that it's a Freightliner issue. I know we should have taken care of this issue sooner, but we really run our trucks - 4000 miles per week slip seating, and I didn't have a replacement truck available for the last 6 months. We're now in a position to take the truck out of service for a couple days, but I don't want to take it to a Freightliner shop that's going to do some guess work. Just wondered if anyone out here had this problem before??? It could be a simple fix. We're in the sticks and the nearest dealer is an hour away.

    Pittsburgh Power can help you with this, either with their chassis dyno or their desktop ECM testing equipment.

    Anywhere with a rolling road can do it, and probably a LOT cheaper than PP. Not to mention, we dont know where the OP is located at...

    nobody else in the country at the moment can test the ECM.

    Test the ECM? All they would have to do was plug in a test ECM and check it that way. Takes about 15 minutes, if that. Every Detroit shop I have been to, and most FL shops, have test ECM's right there.
    I have had excellent luck with a couple of Detroit shops, but no luck out of PP on a few issues. Not bad mouthing them at all, but they are certainly NOT the only player in town.

    For problem #1, sounds like the tire revs are not set right.. has the problem happened since new? Out of 100 customers I have that think they have a bad ECM, only 1 usually have a bad one. For your second problem, it seems like it would have to either be put on the dyno, or road tested with dddl to duplicate the issue and properly troubleshot

    That's not testing the ECM. That's changing parts, trial and error.
