Is there a way to manually turn on a tri PAC apu. Thus far, I'm only seeing options for it turning on automatically by the battery voltage. but I don't have the arctic package (a little sensor that auto starts apu based on coolant temp). So I was going to just start the apu and run it to help heat the engine. But I can't find any way to fire it up manually.
This is would also be helpful when trying to troubleshoot, like turning the key on a car so you can see what the motor is doing or not doing during the start sequence.
I can can get the motor to fire up briefly by putting on ac and setting temp lower than cab temp. It then fires up for about four secs and runs but then a it shuts off with a fault that says ACS or AC5.
So that would leave me to believe that it will run however I don't know how to just turn it on so I can open the coolant valves and see what kind of benefit I get to the coolant temp.
Any ideas?

When we need to run them for troubleshooting we turn The A/C on and run them that way.
The code you are getting Is ACS and it means there is a problem with The A/C system, usually either low freon or a problem with the clutch/clutch power wire -
I see so no way to just run the apu manually other than the ac. That is quite frustrating. I mean what if you wanted to use a space heater inside your truck, the inverter would scream. So I would like a way to use it just on. I could try to add freon to the system to get it going but I still can't believe they don't have a way to just have it run like a generator in an rv if you choose to.

is it only the artic package that makes it start automatically
transam's am tripack starts as soon as you shut off main engine
to maintain engine temp battery condition and ambient cab temp -
Mine always came on about a min after putting a load on the inverter.
-
If you have a inverter the apu should start up to maintain the batteries if the inverter causes the voltage to drop.
-
the reason it wont stay running is because of the code it throwing. some where on this form was a post on how bypass all the senors to make run it manually try doing a search.

I'll try to do another search but I have tried and searched for ten pages back with no luck up that point so far.

Can you turn the unit on while it is in heat mode, so that the light is on on the right side, and the APU engine hours will show as it comes on?
I am not certain about this, as I have always had the artic option, but if the unit is spec'd to charge the batteries, but if you can do the above, then try putting on your tractor and trailer parking lights for a bit, the voltage will fall low enough to bring on the TriPac. -
I can tell you a way to make your tripac turn on when ever u want by putting a switch/break on a wire inside the brain if you still need help with this..it took me 10 minutes to do it ..let me know
pbrstreetgang Thanks this.
