Are you sure that it is not fuel?
-
Had that happen to my ISX Cummins and it looked like someone had filled the water system with grease.
It was a bad oil cooler that was allowing oil into the water.
I also had a bad injector cup on a Detroit that was allowing fuel to get into the water and that smelled like Turpentine and screwed up hoses.
What motor is it? -
Poss. liner. going bad, have oil pan drop then press. the rad. while slowly turning eng. over looking for some drops of water slipping thru pin/hole in piston liner?
-
Not the other way around. -
It's been my experience that when you have a oil/water cooler leak, you get oil in the water when the engine is running and then you get water in the oil when the engine is hot and shut off. Oil pressure overcomes the water pressure when the engine is running and water pressure overcomes the oil system when the engine is shut off. You get more oil in the water than you get water in the oil or maybe the high oil temps burn the water off where as the water system cannot rid itself of the oil.

Probably was the oil cooler going bad and you replaced that.As much as you try though flushing it out doesn't get it all out and you probably just have some leftover coming thru the system.Had mine flushed 5 times and still get a little here and there.

Thats the truth. It took me running mine a few hundred miles before it cleaned up completely and that was running Dawn dish washing soap which worked beautifully. I ran water for a few weeks after I replaced the cooler and eventually got it all out and put anti freeze in it. Clean as can be too.
