Might ask Pittsburgh Power. They can make a 300 run like a scalded cat.

since engine mods are not an allowed discussion on this board, you might want to make this enquiry on http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=64

A precup 3406 only has one piston pack , the cam is what the cam is, you can back the fuel rack limiter screws out, and maybe gain some there if your nozzles are big enough. I doubt going air to air would be much benefit. anything other than adjustments is pretty pricey, and it would be a lot more practicle to swap to a 7FB 3406 if you want to make more power. A more modern turbo might help, like a gated one from a 3406E 475

Well I start with doing away with the precup head, put DI head on it. Opens up the possibilities on the piston packs available. Throwing a stock turbo on one off of something else is a crap shoot without looking at lots of variables. Not saying it won't work but look at several things first I personally think a non gated OR-6051 would do a better job on a A model. There are some governor mods that really help too. Like Superhauler said a cam. Hillcrest cam in Little Rock can be of assistance there. Air to Air would be a help. Or you could go all out and go compounds like I run on my B or C depending on if you look at block serial number or pump part number. Course what ever you do an ol A model is gonna drink the fuel.

I put a turbo from a late b early C on my 400hp a in my 1986 FLC...and I can duplicate 5.8 miles per gallon @ 86000 pounds anywhere in the Pacific Northwest
