Hi I am not familiar with mack engines.. I am wondering how are these engines for owner ops... I am not custom to these engines just cat, Detroit etc don't know much about them... I am looking at a truck with a mack engine and would like some in sight are they expensive to overhaul?
    Thank you..

there good on fuel. many parts still have to come from a mack dealer. they are cheaper to in frame than a cat but more than a Detroit.

the ac460 seems to be a ok motor i know a couple people running them, there very similar to my e-7 but with egr and variable vane turbo ect. from one guy i know with a ac460 told me when i was looking to buy my mack. he said they had a few issues with injectors and a few other things but once all the updates are done they are good motors and at the age they are now all the updates have surly been done by now.

the biggest issue with going mack is dealer support. if you have good dealer support in the area's you run it should not be a issue.

Does anybody have any insight on the longevity of a 2008 Mack mp8 engine? Seems like we've had nothing but problems with the emission side of things and now maybe looking to put a turbo on it after we've replaced the dpf and EGR system...are we throwing money away by sticking it into this engine? Thanks

many Mack engines are still on road in Ukraine. The most popular are E6 and E7.

    E9 is rare.

Early with Bosch Injection pump and later EUP (Bocsh MS6) engines are reliable.

Later Mack MP/Renault DXI series engines are really Volvo engines assemblied on Mack/Renault plants. They use a bit different calibrations, aniway, the same engine with a bit different valve cover and oil pan.

Mack has a rebuild program out now if you let them go through the motor, trans, or rear ends or also if you but a Reman you get same warrnty as a new truck on that piece. 07 was a decent year for egr main troubles was egr and turbo, fuel lines and belt tensioners can be a headache due to under hood heat
