I just picked up another truck this past weekend with a 1LW 550 in it. Upon removing the valve covers to check it out and run the overhead I found that it has a bad injector cam lobe. According to the engine serial number the cam should be a 332-7301. However, I am having trouble finding one. Every place I call seems to think that that this is a popular grind and hard to find. Does anyone know of a good source or an alternative cam that works well in that engine? I wouldn't mind upgrading it while I'm at it as long as cost isn't ridiculous.

My cat dealer shows one day to get that part number, same for the reman version. This cam became the standard cam after the 6ts series so it was used very often.
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
What's wrong with the cam? Get a hold of Elgin cams from ca.. he might be able to fix yours..

Thank you but I read that part. That's a very vague description.

I believe Aleeex was wondering how the lobe is worn. Example is it pitted, is it ground down from a rocker roller siezing and wearing the lobe flat, was it caused by lack of oil in that location? If it is not terribly worn it could possibly be repaired using differant metalergy techniques eg. spray weld and machine etc.

Elgin cams can repair almost anything.
In the bmw world we use them to make performance cams. They weld on extra material and regrind the cam. Then they heat treat them.
For what it's worth, bmw cams are very fragile. You can break it during removal/install if you aren't careful.
I would not hesitate to have them fix your camshaft, considering it's not completely destroyedFordworth Thanks this. -
Thanks for the replies gentleman. I was not getting email notifications so I did not realize I had any replies until just now. The lobe has about a three quarter inch long flat spot with pitting on the ramp up to the tip. There is also some pitting on the tip itself. The roller was not seized but is also pitted. From what I'm told it qualifies as a suitable core for a reman exchange so I would expect that it would be repairable.

Does anyone know of any cam grinders in Texas?
