is the Bore of a 12.7 and a 14 the same? So that the head gasket correctly mates to the head and block?

Unless the 12.7 head has some better intake and exhaust porting or larger valves in it I don.t see where the advantage would be.

Pretty sure just the strokes different .. Bore is the same .. We have one guy here with a hot rodded 12.7 pete he's running 14 litre injectors with pp box and other upgrades from pdi it's pretty awesome seeing a guy lay rubber with a partially loaded trailer when he grouchy one day lol .. Is it possible that by running the 12.7 head they are losing the problem parts

onese we got 14 L w\o head and we had 12.7 with broken rod and damaged block

we fit 12.7 head, injectors, wiring, sensors and ecm on 14L head.

Engine keep running well, with a bit better perfomans than 12.7.

yep it is on my truck that is getting a slowww in frame. whew. but anyway, had we gone with a 14L head,as opposed to the 12.7 on there, the injectors would have to be changed, injector wires, etc.the new/rebuilt detroit 12.7 head to be in monday. poor baby had not been maintained well at all up to this point but all should be well soon.everything is cleaning up well and looking bright and shiny and smooth.considering the shape it was in, it sure did run good. i can only imagine afterward.

thanks for the replies forum friends.if anyone has more to contribute, please do so. i am all eyes since i can't hear on here.this has been an enlightening ordeal for lack of a better term. at least we'll now know what is there.

hoping that it will something like that. many cheap fixes have been done to eliminate the high wear/heat deals. we shall soon know. i am excited considering the performance before all this work.

Are we talking the newer 14.0L on the older 12.7? Or the other way around?

An older 14.0L is the same as an older 12.7L I'm pretty sure. Just like the newer 14.0L head is the same as a newer 12.7L head. The difference is mainly the injectors, N2 vs N3. There could also be compression ratio differences.
