Hello,
I figure I have a year or more before I am in a position to buy my own truck. I have a lot of research to do regarding engines, transmissions, rear ends, etc. The biggest concern is avoiding expensive emissions-related hassles. When did EGRs show up on trucks? 2003? And what about DPFs? 2007? Did all of the engine manufacturers (cat, Cummins, Detroit, etc.) do it at about the same time?
Thanks!
Which years got EGR and other emissions equipment?

from what i know: EGR-2004, DPF-2007 (STAY AWAY), DEF (SCR) -2010
it was government mandated, so all manufacturers had to compy by a set date.....Last edited: Feb 26, 2015

Halfway through 2003

We have 2-'05 isx Cummins w/egrs, both had the egr broken valve stem failures. We fixed them both and then unplugged the egr motors so they dont work or break again.

Truck model year is 2003 with a 2002 engine for pre EGR. 2007 model year with 2006 engine for preDPF. It is possible to encounter oddballs like an 08 produced before the DPF mandate, but they are rare and just as old as an 07.

Thanks guys. The good news is my budget won't allow anything newer than 2003. So I can just pretend I'm being saavy for avoiding the emissions gremlins

2007 dpf engines are way worser than 2010 scr engines.

They build Cascadia gliders now wirh pre EGR Detroits. I wonder how long you could fool the KARB Kommisars.
