I have a 2008 Star with 14L deleted. It works in the oil patch doing mostly short hauls. Put about 4000 miles a month max
Sometimes much less. I was wondering about air filters.
How often should a guy be changing them? I do a lot of idling and short hauls over dirt and gravel roads.
Thanks

Doing short hauls out of pits/ quarries ,With duel exterior filters I do mine every year. When I had one under the hood I changed it every 6 months...
skman Thanks this. -
Ok perfect. I've got dual exterior as well and I changed them about a year ago. The filter minder is showing 10 but I don't know whether to trust them or not. I think I'll just get in the habit of doing the each spring. I just didn't know if that would be too long.
Thanks -
One way is to remove the filter and tap out the dirt with the palm of your hand, keep doing it until the dirt stops coming out of the filter, then re install.
Never use compressed air to clean a air filter, it will distort or rip the paper.
Another way is to submerge the filter in water in a up and down motion, keep changing the water until the water stays clean, hang the filter to dry then re use.
I have been doing the water cleaning method for over 30 years and have spare filters to exchange so i don't have to wait for them to dry.
I learned this method through a John Deere owners manual, Cat and Deere and maybe others sold a solution to help clean the filter, just make sure the filter that you use is washable, some filter manufacturers don't recommend cleaning, such as my KW, it has a eco filter.skman Thanks this. -
My local Napa has a cleaning option. You drop em off and they send them away. Sometimes you get them back and sometimes you don't. At least with your method...my filters wouldn't get lost in a warehouse somewhere haha

Filter washing is a big business in Houston.......we would get ours washed one time . Didn't wash the inner either, always new.

The Napa here does it. Not sure if they do it at all of them or not. The one here is a franchise so the owner can do some his own thing. Not sure about the cleaning solution....I'll have to ask when I go in this week.

I work in a very dusty place overseas , a filter could last 6 months, I switched to KN filter, so far its fine
