I have a problem with an ISX under a load. It's blowing black smoke, low power and it shuts off at times. No check engine light. Anyone knows what it might be? I was thinking EGR but there is no check engine light.

What year engine? How many miles? Original turbo?
Heavyd Thanks this. -
buy a new IMAP sensor

Look at the turbo actuator. Remove it to be sure it is moving freely and not hanging up in the housing. Also move the lever on the turbo to make sure it works freely.

What kind a codes you getting on your dash???
For example Mid128 Pid27 Fmi 13 this is EGR Valve Code...???
First find the Codes, then you can ind the problem, DO NOT START replacing the parts one at the time!!! -
Had similar symptoms with the ISX in my '06 Pete. Turned out to be the turbo AND the actuator. If you're lucky though, it's a sensor. Start with the simple stuff and go from there. It shouldn't be anything worse than the turbo itself. Do you have a pyrometer or boost gauge? What are they reading when this happens?

I replaced several actuators on the 565 ISX I had. Cummins told me nothing needed to be done after changing an actuator or turbo. I never experienced any issues. After a 1/2 day on the dyno and calling support I was told I needed to replace the turbo. In the end I found that I needed only an actuator because mine was hanging up.
