    Differential oil for semi trucks?

    Hello, i have a 2002 Freightliner Columbia and was wondering what kind of differential oil i would need so i can change it this weekend by myself.

    It might be 50w synthetic but call freightliner to make sure. They'll probably need your VIN number.

    Trans would be 50W rears is most likely 90W gear oil Synththic anymore for mileage.

    My Kenworth has 75- 90W synthetic in the Diff, and 50 in the trans.

    If ya can hold off I would get online at Scheaffer's oil and find a local sales rep. Their oil is the bomb!!! I swapped out all 3 boxes 2 weeks ago and love the change. The tranny shifts smoother and all 3 run about 20 degrees cooler. They are a little bit more expensive, but well worth it. I don't have any hard numbers yet, but it is looking like I gained about .2 mpg with the swap. I can repost in a few weeks with hard numbers if ya'all want.

    As for the oil itself...50w for the tranny and you can run 75w90 in the rears (all synthetics of course). If ya got the time I highly suggest that you drain the drive axle hubs to. You just got to pull of the drive tires and there is a allen plug in the hub to drain and refill them. Its just cheap insurance...

    i use sheaffers 75-140 synthetic in trans (yup) and rears
