Volvo's ride will kill a century. Repairs depend on the motor it has, but freightliner has centers everywhere. Volvo's with volvo engines are a specialty for repairs and are known for electical issues not matter what engine is in them. You generally get a century for value, fuel mileage, and relatively cheap repairs, but many will say more of them.

what other truck has a good ride and is affordable to repair
-
I would go with the century. Did you look at the peterbuilt 387 you can pick them up for pretty cheap, theire fuel efficient too.
-
there is no such thing as an affordable repair they are all expensive to repair. Most of the time it is a component that needs replaced, engine tranny, clutch, rear ends and most of them are all the same price
-
I would stay away from a mercades motor. We have one in a Freightliner and they are just not a solid motor. They have a messy canister oil and fuel filter system.
We have two Western Stars with series 60 Detroits in them. We like the Detroits. We average 6 plus mpg. in the winter months and 7 plus mpg. in the summer months. We pull 53 ft. dry vans with average loads of 25,000 lbs. 515 Hp. eaton-fuller 10 spds. 3.58 rears.
My advise is to buy the truck you like. After all you are the one that has to pay for it. I would stick with one of the common motors such as cummins, cat, or detroit.
It is a buyers market right now. Lots of trucks for sale. Please let us know how your search goes. -
when buying a used truck have them look for extended warrenty on the engine, most of the time a detroit will have 5 year 500,000 mile warrenty, and u will have to pay $500 to have it transfered over to u. transmissions and rearends most of the time have the same. and shop around to don't be scared to look a good distance away for a truck, sometiems u can get better deals...

what motor would you recomend
-
The Volvo will be way more expensive to have work done on

60 series, alot of service centers, good parts availability, fuel mileage is good.. and just about everybody can work on one
