I'm still in search of a new turbo for my truck. I now have 59 injectors, 800hp marine cam, Pitts power box and a 600 7CZ program in my ecm but stock turbo. Truck isn't on the road yet but I don't wanna use my stock turbo and ruin it. I've talked to Mich turbo and they want alot of money for what you get since I have to bring it to Canada. I'm aiming more to the pitts power turbo then thiers but theres another guy who i've been talking to who thinks a Garrett ball bearing GT4718R will work good. Its got a Comp wheel size of 88mm on the inducer and 117.6mm on the exducer with A/R of .69. The turbine wheel is 92.7mm and u can get housings with ratios of .96, 1.08, 1.23, and 1.39.
Will the Garrett turbo work well with my truck or will I need bigger? Next size up is the GT5533R with 91.2mm inducer and 133mm exducer on the comp size and 111.4 on the turbine side. Are any of these close or am i looking at needing a hybrid?

The specs I got with my Garrett ball bearing turbo said its good for 1000hp,55psi and 2100cfm.
From what I can make out by talking to Garrett mines a cross between a GT47 and a GT55 with a A/R of 1.23.
I think the ball bearing type is the way to go,faster spooling and thicker shaft.
Man you are going to make some huge HP with that setup. -
The GT55 has too big a turbine for any throttle responce. I don't think even with the 1.23 housing you will be able to drive the turbo below 1400 rpm while cruising loaded. This makes for a lot of shifting. Also to turn this big a turbo you'd need to keep the PP box on a high setting all the time. The 92-95mm turbine with 1.45-1.60 A/R housing should be close with the compressor wheel size you have listed for the GT55. This should be able to handle the hp you are looking for. I'm assuming you are wanting between 1000-1100 to the tires at full power setting on the box. With this smaller turbine, you should be able to cruise at lower power levels.

For what its worth I seem to be the only one running a Garrett ball bearing turbo and are happy to take any measurements you want as the turbo is in a box and not on the engine at the moment.
Mr Haney is right it is hard to drive under 1400rpm but with 4.33 rears its doing 1500rpm at 90 kmh even at stock I drive around 15-1600rpm.
It had NO lag at all and pulled strong till 2100rpm it seemed to be a great match to the injectors and burned clean. -

Just for reference guys, a GT47 is factory fitted to C15s # 475-550hp, a GT50 is fitted to C16s@ 575-650hp, a GT55 is fitted to C18s # 700hp and a C18 # 950hp is fitted with two GT42s. All are plain bearing turbos.
