Just got off the phone with cat and am told the waste gate is stuck open and the whole turbo must be replaced to fix. $2200 for new uninstalled. Now what turbo would be a good replacement for stock if all I ever plan on doing is maybe a 6NZ swap and where would I go to have this 6NZ swap done? Ser.# MBN07129 Out of Zanesville,OH
Need to get the truck back on the road as soon as possible thanks.
Need new trubo for MBN.

I think you can just plug off the wastegate and leave the turbo alone
-
Well the wastegate will not close all the way they say which is why I cannot build full boost. That and if big brother sees more than 30 psi of boost it'll derate it so I'm kinda up you know what creek without a paddle.

Talked to a guy at a turbo shop who says if all that is wrong is the wastegate is stuck open he can take it apart and clean and free it up for around $300. So I think for right now I'll try that. Just dropped $1800 in tires yesterday so this week is not going well so far!

If any of you come up with any other good ideas I'm all ears!

As long as the turbines and housing are in good shape I would just rebiuld it. Replace the bearings, clean it and have it cerami-coated on the exhaust side.
Truck Farmer Thanks this. -
I would hope for $300 your getting an actual rebuild, and now just soaked with penetrating oil?

Try getting the part number and doing a google search. There is a place I think its in Oregon that has Schweitzer direct replacement turbos for way less than oem.

Michigan Turbo in Michigan ( obviously ).
If you read up about 550hpW900L, thats where his turbo came from..
Google them for the number.Truck Farmer Thanks this. -
Got turbo back today and they had to put a new exhaust turbine housing on it due to the divider being cracked up they said. $360 of all. We'll see how it works. They did have a brand new Schweitzer direct replacement turbo for $1450 on the shelf. These guys were by far the cheapest around here. That and they were the only ones around that had all the parts and a new or reman turbo in stock! Everyone else I would have to wait at least 2 days for them to get the reman or the parts to rebiuld. Now all I need is to find a 6NZ ECM and someone to set it up or find a way to get ahold of DDS for the ECM upgrade. I don't have a high enough count to PM anyone yet!
