We have a fleet of petes with the cat c15 mxs series 625hp engines. We are eating up 12 rib fan cluthes and air charge hoses. Has anybody else have these problems?

There was a recall becuase of bad quality Horton fan clutches and I also know that many guys have some werid customer specs loaded into the ECM when it comes to fan control. A few guys have the controls set to activate the fan with the jakes...this alone can eat up a fan clutch. As for the hump hoses...I am on my second set in 345,000 miles. The higher boost levels and higher underhood temps do take a toll on these. What is actually going bad on the hoses? Are they cracking (like dry rot) or are the hoses splitting from to much boost?

Would you happen to know where I could get a copy of that recall ? I know someone here recently, that had one of these and it let loose.

Are you replacing them with OEM hoses, or aftermarket? I used these on my pickup and have held up great at 90psi, 6" from the manifold. (their made in Cincinnati)

From what I understand it's an "update" not a recall. Meaning if it lets go you pay the bill because you failed to get the update.

I couldn't find any specific info on the Horton update but I did find a few video's about what's causing the failures. (according to this company)

    Video 1
    Video 2

I also read that even with the Horton update people are having issues with their 11 blade radiator choppers.

Yeah I replaced my stock ones with more stockers cuase at the time I wasn't thinking of big HP/TQ and boost numbers. Then I had a one split down on I-68 in western MD. After limping about 70 miles to the nearest shop I had to throw another stocker in its place. Thanks for the link, I've been trying to find a source for the silicon hoses. It seems here lately nobody wants to carry anything but stock parts.

thanks for all the replies. going to try kit masters gold top - on the hoses we are cracking them inside to out - most of these hoses are rated 60psi and thats what we run. still trying to figure something out.

I know one way around all of this, but it would be a whole lot of trouble. However, once it is done, you wont have the problem ever again. You could have a good welder/fabricator to custom make you v-band connections for all of the charge air hoses.

This wouldn't last very long..........the torque of the engine would rip this idea apart in short order........then when you add in frame twist, I'be bet it would be less than a week before you have to fix it all over again
