I have not driven a pre production maxforce. This is just an educated guess from my past experience with different products. A driveability issue would be turbo chuff/bark at highway speeds without major throttle change. There is no way to flow as much egr as they will without driveability issues. I am really wanting to drive one to verify this, but I have not seen one outside of the mid america truck show. There are some Navistar Test trucks running out of Denver that head up and over Eisenhower, seen a few on the hook going back to Denver which is to be expected during the devlopmental phase.

The MX engine was designed and built in Europe by Daf, i was involved in the pre production trials across europe in 2004.Engine has been in vehicles since 2006
the US version EPA10 has EGR and SCR where the Euro 4+5 versions only have SCR.
When Europe adopts Euro 6 emmissions in 2013 Daf MX will be the US version with EGR,SCR and DPF.
The US is testing for Europe!!!

So. I read the whole thread and really never heard any testimonials about how the engine is really doing here in the U.S. Being a truckdriver and small business owner I am curious to mileage, power and dependability. There has to be someone running this thing thats not an engineer.

    SHC Thanks this.

Still in the process of getting the paperwork and stuff done to get it leased on. Have only bobtailed a little so I'll have to get some miles on it to really know how it performs. I'll try to post as I go and let you know how it is going. So far I had to take it in today to have the fuel control module replaced. Hope that is the only glitch I run into.

We are required to stock a certain number of parts for the new MX engines, any truck down part we dont stock PACCAR is flying in at their cost. Paccar has all their hopes on this new line of engines, and BTW the MX12s are built at a new factory in Tennesee i believe, and yes it is a Cummins/Paccar joint venture.

Stick with your Cummins guys....these MX engines are some pile of junk....Just wait until they are four or five years old....Paccar will be lucky if it doesn't break them. Nearly every one of them passing through our workshop has been opened for various reasons....excessive oil consumption, dropping valves, blowing up,running bearings etc....A Cummins,,Caterpillar,Detroit,Scania,Volvo,Mercedes is a Rolls Royce next to these yokes. They are fine for three or four years and then they fall to bits. Any of my customers who bought them for light work found them satisfactory, but any of them doing hard/heavy work got rid of them and went back to Scania,Mercedes or Volvo.

I have a friend who is a meticulous owner driver, who has his 2008 DAF 510bhp MX maintained by a dealer close to the factory in Holland where they are made. After 350,000miles,the MX engine dropped a valve while he was at the very North of Sweden. The engine grenaded itself. Daf in Sweden wanted in the region of US $30,000 to rebuild it. Even the SCR exhaust box had to be replaced at a cost of over US$5,000. After four weeks negotiating with the DAF dealers and factory, they eventually did the job for a lesser sum(I wasn't told how much). He suffered more than a month off the road between the repairs and the arguing with DAF/Paccar. So much for the great back up and warranty they are blowing about. Even though he is motoring again,he can't wait to get rid of the technical marvel of an MX.....but he must first try and recoup his losses.

Stick with your Cummins guys.....you will be well paid for it in resale value in years to come and lack of downtime...and at least in the US...there are several good workshops who can fix them.....The MX will end up like Volvo's/Mercedes own engines in the US....Too complicated,no one able to fix them, extravagantly priced parts and extravagantly priced labour as a lack of technical expertise and know how will exist.
