Heard today KW is tossing round the idea of building gliders again. This info came from a very good source.

Yeah I heard that too about a month ago. Jfaulk called to see if rumor was true and I don't think he's gotten a call back. It would be nice if they did!

Last I heard, Peterbilt had a 14 month waiting list...... KW might want a piece of that pie.

According to the KW reps at MATS you could already get one. ?????? he also said that only 2 people asked about them, me bein 1. I wanna say it takes somethin like 60 days, I'll see what I can dig up again. On a bad note, the Paccar people said the future was not great for the W9's and 389s. didnt seem possible but he said it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to meet the gov't requirements. think I died a little inside when he said that:biggrin_25513:.
Please don't quote me on this as i have a hard time believing both stories, but I did hear it with my own 2 ears.

Well that would make perfect sense,KW offers a glider after I buy a Freightliner glider. Seriously though, Id have to see it to believe it. Everyone I talked to said nope, and not gonna offer gliders.

Nope no call back and I totally forgot about checking up on it. The salesman who's worked there for over 20yrs said he didn't know anything about them but had just seen paperwork on his desk with the word "glider" which he had never seen before.
What requirements? I wouldn't believe what you hear either, these are probably the same reps that said how wonderful the Paccar MX was going to be. Turns out they were 100% correct if you like dealership service bays and climbing hills at less than 30mph. :biggrin_2559: I drive past the KW factory here in Ohio quite often, there is no shortage of W9's and T8's being built.

Its true w9's and 389s are probably going to be gone in the next couple years. Federal fuel mileage standards is one reason and the other is sales, nobody is buying them anymore.

Funny, they said the same thing when the T600 came out. You do realize the fuel mileage standards (if they ever came true) would be measured by the ton mile. You can't hold a heavy haul truck or a vocational truck to the same standards as a door slammer hauling 30k.

Are you one of those that think the hood (the only difference between a T660 and a T800/W900) makes a difference in the fuel mileage to someone like me pulling 85k net on short hauls with about 30% interstate 70% 2 lane state routes?

Who's telling you "no one is buying them"? Because I drive past the KW plant here in Ohio very regularly and the is a steady stream of these trucks leaving daily. About 80% of the trucks I see decked leaving there are T800's.

The problem with most truck drivers is they only know the part of the industry they work in. And since most pull dry vans and see other cookie cutter "ordered cheap as possible" fleet trucks they think the rest of the industry is the same. For every 1 Volvo or Cascadia I see in a steel mill I see 50-379's.

Easy buddy, I wasn't talking #### about long hoods, I have a 389 myself and I'm going to be more pissed than anyone, when they quit making them.
And my peterbilt and kenworth dealers are the ones telling me no one is buying them.
And no i don't believe a hood is going to make any difference in fuel mileage, especially for me grossing 248k haha
    I didn't say anything about t800's just w900's

    377pete Thanks this.
