Just tried Lucas fuel treatment for the first time. Fuel mileage tanked from ~6 to 4.7 mpg! The lowest I ever got before was ~5.7.
Could this just be a coincidence and I got a batch of horrible fuel, or has anyone else had this happen with Lucas?
I used a quart per (120 gal) full tank, approx as recommended.
Lucas made fuel mileage worse?

I am not a fan of fuel additives, in all my years I have never seen one that did anything in a class 8 diesel engine, not one, we are getting into the season were they are changing over to winter grade fuel.
-
Maybe you put their oil additive in by accident??? I saw a guy do that once LOL
I had used Lucas quite a bit and never saw a decrease, always an increase of about .01-.03mpg. But I quit using them after reading all the articles about how it can hurt an engine (especially their oil additive)
I now use Diesel Power additives on occasion and always in the winter time to keep things from gelling up. -
What have you heard about Lucas oil additive can cause engine problems? -
I'd be interested in any information about Luca Oil Additives damaging engines. I've used Lucas for years on older engines, and haven't noticed a problem that could be directly linked to the oil or additive.

I have used the fuel treatment dozens of times. fill my davco up & put the rest in the tanks. always saw an improvement in m.p.g. the oil treatment has been used in my 95 detroit for 13 years & 1.5 mil miles & has not hurt anything.

Did you get your first batch of winter blended fuel and fight a head wind on that tank too?

I worked in dealerships on engines for over 30 years and never not once did a WO come in with a fuel problem and the customer admitted to using any aditive. Not once.
If the unit has sat for a while and has summer fuel or if you are in Texas and going north, adding an antigell is worth while, if you get you fuel locally and use the fuel in 2 weeks it is not necessary. If the fuel was to gel the pump would not be able to put it in you truck. DA.
Lucas oil treatment in a transmission I have seen a warranty claim rejected, I am not a gear man but worked with some very good ones, they had an 18 speed fail the eaton rep came buy and they just had the top off, he rejected the claim immediately.
Oil is made to flow in a certain way, jell it up and block its flow and things do not work as they should.
Engines I have pulled the pan and seen jelled oil stuck to the side of the block anywhere there is not a strong flow, it jells on the head blocking oil flow which has a chance of allowing heat to build abnormally. I the engine manufacturer wanted oil blocked or thickened they would have you put in 90 wHeavyd Thanks this. -
$12 per gallon for Wal mart 2 cycle oil works fine to me and it beats the overpriced Lucas to help sponsor sports stadiums....
SHC Thanks this. -
