I recently had my dpf removed and cleaned.... Apparently there is a rating they use for how dirty or clean it is. Mine was a 3.5 dirty and then a 2.5 after they cleaned it. I tried to find info about this number on the web but didn't have any luck. Can someone explain this or direct me to where I can learn more about this number and the process in general? I'd like to be able to know when I should get the dpf cleaned and when I need to get it replaced.
Also it seems that the Freightliner filters are about $800 while the Cummins filters are $1800... I'd like to know if this info is accurate and if so, why the huge difference in price!![]()
DPF cleaning, "WG" rating, etc

We just had the DPF cleaned as well. Not sure what the WG is I believe it is weight. The shop in Ca weighed the filter befor the baked/cleaned it and after. My guess would be that they were able to remove a pound of ash from your filter! We priced a new filter from Donaldson It was $1000 new for our 09 Peterbilt with a cummins.

WG is "water gauge", or difference in pressure across the filter in inches of water. The number is basically how plugged the dpf is. They will measure this before and after the cleaning procedure to see if the dpf is any good to reuse. All dpf models are different, but generally they are all in the same ballpark for readings. New have a wg of about 2.25, ok to reuse about 2.5 to 3. Over 3.5 to 4 is plugged.
There is always price differences going from manufacturer direct and other suppliers. 3rd party parts suppliers are producing DPFs now. Make sure you shop around if you need a replacement.
Check out this link from FSX for the wg ratings.

Oh ok GREAT, this is what I was wondering.... The numbers were confusing to me because I would have expected 1 to be a good number and 5 to be bad but it is obviously not that simple! I checked out the link you gave and it was very helpful...thanks a lot!!Tell mr. t i said hello
