I got a peterbilt 387 2009 model, bought it recently, when I was doing a pre trip the other day I noticed the two major springs that set on top of eachother [under the hood, passenger side] [the springs that run parallel over eachother on both sides of the engine frame] are shifted just a 1/4 of an inch or so. What could this mean for me? Repairs? How much? The dangers? Any help with this ASAP would be very appreciated. Cause I just don't have the money, I haven't even been able to buy a "peace" of mind lately. My clutch needs replacement in about 4 weeks tops, my APU needs to be fixed I'm losing lots of money keeping the truck on, any help would be thanked

My springs look the same, and have been like that for for a couple years. They pop a little when turning sharp. My shop said to replace the bushings in the spring hangers. Its not too costly. As for the clutch, what makes you believe it is on a replacement schedule? Drive that MF till it falls! lol Stack some cash then go get it fixed. Clutch will run you about 2500 bucks. As for the APU, that can wait, that is just a Bonus feature....You dont need an APU to Truck!

there is a torque spec for the spring hangers any TA can at least do that then just monitor the situation

every 6 months even this lease truck is gone over by the shop and that is on the list

Shifted spring could mean the u-bolts are loose. I normally take a steel hammer and lightly tap the top of each bolt. Some will make a firm "boing" others will make a lower sounding "thud" noise. The "thud" will mean the bolt is loose. They are normally tightened to about 450 ftlbs, but check for your particular truck.

Worn spring shackles wouldn't cause the springs to move.

Hi, I have the same 2009 387 peterbilt. The springs are like that on those when turned, just keep greasing them every 5000 kilometers or so. They will be fine, do not spend any money on bushing or hangers. it's not worth it. they will remain the same... it is a manufacturer fault.

    Aleks_Andar Thanks this.
