Putting in a new 44MT. 2/3 bolts broke loose just fine, but the third is unbelievably tight. I probably put ~600 ft lbs on that sucker, heated it up, lubed it up, hammered the living piss out of it and nothing. I was standing on top of the engine with a 5 foot pipe absolutely reefing on it. It feels like it was put on there without any sort of anti-seize.

Any tricks to this? Should I drill out the bolt?

The 44MT does not need a core return if that helps.

You need two people, get your long breaker bar back on the bolt and apply as much torque as you can while the second person hammers the socket or the casting near the bolt. The shock from the hammer blow, plus the torque should break it free! Fingers crossed!!!

You might think I'm crazy, but try heating up again and find a candle before you heat it up. Take the candle after u heat the bolt and shove it on the hot bolt let the wax melt on it and it will release the rust. I had a bolt stuck and broke off in the coolant jacket of a 1929 wakasha engine and I had tried everything under the sun to try to free it and when I tried the candle trick NO BS it worked.

That's the problem, it's a blind bolt so it's hard to get anything on the threads.

Sometimes you just need to do whatever it takes.

Spray some kind of rust eater- walk away, spray -walk away, spray walk away -let sit over night-- then try an impact gun if you can get one on it. if you can heat the part that receives the bolt with oxy/ acetylene to very hot it should come eventually.

I was gonna say I hope it ain't the hard to reach one!

Try repeated heating cooling cycles because the steel and aluminum will expand and contract at different rates so the rust bond should break.

Might be easier to just break it off so you can get the starter out of the way and then weld the bugger out.

It's probably too late now, because it's not available in stores, but get a can of Kroil for next time. Order via the internet.

Broke the socket. Going to cut the head off like the one poster said, remove starter, heat up stud, do candle trick, weld new larger nut so I can use 3/4" drive and no extension.

I was using penetro 90 and the candle trick but it's a moot point because you can't really get anything in there, it's a blind hole.
