Good evening to all. I'm looking at early model Acerts. I spoke with a PDI dealer in Toledo Ohio about doing updates. He stated that the early models we're known for head gasket issues. Caterpillar came out with two different compression ratios, and he told me to look for the one with the lower ratio.
Is there a range of serial numbers to stay away from or is there any other way to identify this? Any additional information on these early model Acerts would be awesome.

If you're looking at an early Acert, the engine serial number should begin with BXS. The first batch of Acerts were BXS00001 thru BXS02034, and had the higher compression ratio. Look for BXS02035 and up if you want the lower compression engine!

Only one compression ratio listed for the BXS in SIS and it is 18:1, and even on the later MXS and NXS engines the only way that one of those would have lower compression is if it is rated above 550hp, so it would be listed as a 625.
